A volunteer citizens group monitoring construction projects financed by voter-approved public bonds at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa is seeking a new member.

The Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (ICBOC) has been meeting since 2006, when voters approved Proposition “G,” a $247 million bond ballot measure that is providing financing for a number of hospital construction projects scheduled to continue the next several years. The ICBOC group is charged with monitoring Prop. G-related construction expenditures by the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that serves as landlord of the hospital, including ownership of the property and buildings on behalf of local taxpayers.

According to GHD CEO Barry Jantz, the District’s board of directors is seeking applicants for a “member at large” vacancy, an East County resident interested in working to ensure public bond monies are utilized in accordance with the voter approved Prop G ballot measure. This specific “at large” position is not required to have a background in the construction, financial, and/or health care fields, but any such related experience is welcome, he said.

The full ICBOC Committee meets quarterly, while sub-committees meet a various times, as needed. Recent ICBOC activities can be reviewed at http://icboc.gafcon.net. Also available on the on the website are minutes from previous Committee meetings, meeting agendas, bylaws, annual workplans, reports, memos and presentations.

ICBOC members serve for no more than two, two-year terms. Appointments to the ICBOC are made by the GHD board. Interested volunteers can obtain an application at the GHD offices, 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa, by phoning (619) 825-5050, or by email at info@grossmonthealthcare.org.
